Hogwarts, Hogwarts,
Hoggy Warty Hogwarts,
Teach us something please,
Whether we be old and bald,
Or young with scabby knees,
Our heads could do with filling,
With some interesting stuff,
For now they're bare
And full of air,
Dead flies and bits of fluff.
So teach us stuff worth knowing,
Bring back what we forgot,
Just do your best
We'll do the rest,
And learn until our brains all rot!

1: The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2: Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
3: There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
4: Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5: Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6: His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7: The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
8: The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9: The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10: More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11: Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
12: Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13: Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
14: Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Might be the best thing since 1/2-Blood Prince

OK - here's why we like John Granger's writing so much. But you have to read the whole thing. He concludes with 2 paragraphs clarifying the difference between his insightful alchemical readings and the "plot event theories" of which there are many of varying weight and significance within the linked article.

Then get Finding God in Harry Potter. You've got to have something to read until book 7!

wow, was that a great read!!!!!

i'm not buying the snape as vampire story, but found the overall alchemy outlines there the easiest to understand really.
it also helped me undestand so much of what i love about the dynamics of the 'trio'.
i have seen the relationship between ron and hermione as a combative but also mutually nurturing one. almost like a marriage that is there for the purpose of another - the orphan child. and that their presence actually helps the purifying process occur.

maybe i only like it because it's a frame work that supports my own thinking hehehe.....

cheers,

are you sure you're not the real JKR ... she is adamantly denying the vamp story too LOL

"We can do you blood, rhetoric and love - in any order - concurrently or consecutively ... we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric - be we can NOT do you rhetoric and love without the blood ... the blood is compulsory."
-Richard Dreyfus as the king of the acting troop in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

The blood is most important and my thought is that it would be very fitting for such a central character as Snape to have a unique relationship to it. Plus you have stuff like Quirrel talking about Snape "always swooping around like a giant bat" and (according to Pauli's memory) always having Garlic in hsi classroom or a strong smell of it.
my buddy Dom noted that Vamps and werewolves traditionally despise each other, particularly Vamps considering WWs to be mere "beast" monsters, as opposed to their own "sophistication" (eg Snape's dislike of Lupin).
But the verdict is still officially out until book 7 is released :)

On a funnier note - I was at my friend Smitty's place this morning and we went onto the back porch for a smoke and even though it was slightly overcast, the air seemed to me to have a sheen to it and so I put my sunglasses on, and he asked ... "so, when did you become a vamp?" lol

I was thinking that Snape might have appeared in a mirror, but then I realized that was the "foe-glass" when Barty Crouch Jr. was in possession of it. Has he appeared in any other mirrors? Would that rule it out? I think it is a bit of a stretch for Granger; I think he has more of an argument for "werewolf Draco".

Blogger Merlin said ... (January 04, 2006 4:42 PM) :

somebody would have to show me an instance of Snape and a mirror, I can't think of any ... but here's a wild idea - we neve know exactly what happened to the Mirror of Erised (I think Grnager notes it but it's also a commonly known thing that the name is "desire" spelled backwards) ... it is a magical mirror but none-the-less a real mirror, it simply has the ability to reflect what is in the heart and not just on the surface ... What if Snape is a Vamp (and, come on, he's way too much of a goth not to be - and I think this is part of why she likes him so much, she is sort of a goth - Granger did an article rebutting an article on her as "CS Lewis as a Goth with Cleavage" - I think she is a goth but in a cool way, she is a beautiful mother but maintained her own particular style in becoming so - at least that's my opinion)
AND what if Harry finds this out in an "accidental" event involving stumbling upon the Mirror of Erised (you have to admit it would be right up her alley to bring that in from all the way back in the first book, and probably also use it as a vehicle for some self-realization of his own prejudice on Harry's part)

Blogger Merlin said ... (January 04, 2006 4:45 PM) :

also, the foe glass is a good clue/instance - Joshua raised it to me in considering whether Snape is good or evil. the fact that he appeared in the foe glass means, at least at that time, he was good. IE not just that Barty considered him a foe - I get the impression that such magical things rarely lie (much like the marauder's map and the age line DD puts around the goblet of fire. These are usually truly infallible oracles ... not of what will be, but if what IS, in truth, the present reality

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (January 05, 2006 4:20 AM) :

yes i had the same thoughts about the foe glass. it was enemies of crouch jr it showed, and it definately showed snape.

still don't think he's a vampire....

(but am more ready to be convinced about draco and the werewolf thing. it seems rowling deliberately DIDN"T confirm it was a dark mark on his arm etc etc)

jkr (in australia)
(and no, i'm definately NOT 'her'!)
