----------------------------------------------------------------------- -->

Hogwarts, Hogwarts,
Hoggy Warty Hogwarts,
Teach us something please,
Whether we be old and bald,
Or young with scabby knees,
Our heads could do with filling,
With some interesting stuff,
For now they're bare
And full of air,
Dead flies and bits of fluff.
So teach us stuff worth knowing,
Bring back what we forgot,
Just do your best
We'll do the rest,
And learn until our brains all rot!

1: The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2: Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
3: There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
4: Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5: Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6: His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7: The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
8: The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9: The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10: More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11: Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
12: Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13: Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
14: Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Priori Incantatem

Lissa brought up something that I had noticed once. We're not sure if it's a clue or a slip, but it's an anomaly in the chapter "Priori Incantatem" from Goblet of Fire. Harry's father's "ghost" comes out of Voldemort's wand before his mother's - that's odd because in other places in the books it is made pretty clear that Harry's father was killed first. So his ghost should come out after Harry's mother's ghost.

Rowling is pretty meticulous about weaving the story, but she has also admitted getting date and timing sequences messed up in the past. So, the question is this: could this be related somehow to the "big secret" that we're going to learn about Harry's mother in Book 7.

What Version do you have? Maybe the audio stuff is done from the first printing and then there were corrections or somthing, but in my paperback copy Lily appears first, right after Bertha Jorkins, and tells Harry "hold on, your father is coming, it will be all right"

We're looking into this... maybe the manuscript given to Jim Dale, the reader of the books, is kind of a "version zero" since they come out before the books.

In my paperback copy, which I just finished, James Potter appears first, saying "Hold on son, your mother is coming." Harry is all anxious about seeing his mother as he's thinking about how he "knew what was next" etc etc, I don't have the book right beside me, so I'm just paraphrasing, but I'm certain Lily comes after James

Wow, looks like we have a real anomaly here, maybe we can scour some other fan sites in regards to this one.

Don't know if this helps any...but I wanted to announce that one of my fave reference sites, Harry Potter Facts, is back online. Anyway it seems to concur with the "Lily came out last" theory. HP Lexicon was no help at all on this...

This is all really odd ...I asked Josh to check his book as well. I have the part about Harry "knowing what comes next" but that is when he first sees another head, a woman's head, begin to appear ... taht he knows who's it is before it fully happens becuase she is the woman he thought of more than any other that night

Really Odd

Blogger Merlin said ... (November 07, 2005 9:26 PM) :

to be techincally correct, neither version is theory, simply a discrepancy in published versions of the story
(although I would be interested to hear any theories on how it came about ... thus far it would seem that it occurs both ways in the paper-back phase ... very odd)

So it seems like this strange order of appearances is not crucial to the story if it was corrected. I thought it might point to strange circumstances and maybe even "tricks" played by Lily and James in the face of death. There were probably people geekier than us who pointed this anomaly out and she got to work before one of the many printings and revised it. The HP lexicon has a differences page, but this isn't listed there.
