----------------------------------------------------------------------- -->

Hogwarts, Hogwarts,
Hoggy Warty Hogwarts,
Teach us something please,
Whether we be old and bald,
Or young with scabby knees,
Our heads could do with filling,
With some interesting stuff,
For now they're bare
And full of air,
Dead flies and bits of fluff.
So teach us stuff worth knowing,
Bring back what we forgot,
Just do your best
We'll do the rest,
And learn until our brains all rot!

1: The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2: Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
3: There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
4: Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5: Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6: His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7: The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
8: The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9: The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10: More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11: Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
12: Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13: Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
14: Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Lion-Witch-Wardrobe trailer

It looks like a really excellent job has been done one this movie and that means I'll be pleasantly surprised; I was fairly sure they would "muff it" as the Brits say. Anyone who has seen the older version with campy production and a laughable lion suit can understand my apprehension. For Gandalf all you need is an old guy with long hair and a robe, Aragorn requires a scruffy dude with macho sex appeal. Aslan on the other hand is a tough character to get right and, I would agrue, impossible to do with any lion suit. He's suppose to represent ultimate grandeur in a way that Gollum represented horrific repugance; the film industry's answer? Computer-Generated Images (CGI).

That's it, I am growing my hair and beard long (maybe with a short/fuzz mustache) just to prove Aslan can be done without CG.

But seriously, this movie looks excellent, I have plans to see it Friday and Saturday night of opening weekend, with people who are equally excited to see it, Friday with Dom and Saturday with a friend in GC and her kids.

I'm super pumped for this movie as well! I'm also excited for King Kong, which is probably not as mentally stimulating as you two would like, but it still looks cool!

After having been decidedly not going to see Kong, I am now going to see it (
my original feelings ahd to do with personal things, like that every time I see Jack Black I think "man it would be so much fun to hit him" ... but from what I have heard he was chosen mainly for resemblence to Peter Jackson ... and that is the reason I will probably go to see it when I get the chance. I like Jackson's idea of adding in the film director ... kind of like the film director/artist can discover these big mythopoeic things that might clash with the modern world

Well if it's confession time, I have to admit that Aeon Flux looks like a delicious piece of eye candy to me. Matrix-y stylized unemotional violence, cheesy dialogue worthy of "Alien Resurrection" and really cool hair - how can I not resist? Plus there will be tons of people sitting there moping that it isn't as good as the comic which is always good for a laugh.

I wish my son was old enough to go see the LW&W, but he got scared at "Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, so maybe in a year or two.

Um ... for me it would be "Domino" with Kiera Knightley
Just Kidding ... mostly ... the whole gritty violence things does appeal to me ... I'm a huge fan of "The Usual suspects" and the next film by that same screen writer, "Way of the Gun" ... but US and WOTG have much better dialogue and plot, which I have a hard time believing Domino lives up to or even gets close to ... just seems to me like a movie that simultaneously takes its own attitude way too seriously and not seriously enough

Blogger Merlin said ... (December 02, 2005 5:06 PM) :

For the record, just to be absolutely clear ... I have no plans on going to see "Domino" - never have. I mean some movies I go to see out of "closet interests" - like I went to see "Hide and Seek" because I have this cloet thing about horror since some of them have been done really well as social criticism (eg The "Ring" movies ... although I'm aware some might disagree with me, and the first "Cube" movie)
And as I walked out from "Hide and Seek," I thought "well, I really wasn't expecting too much"

I went to see "White Noise" for the same "horror/thriller" reasons and thought it a much better public service message than a story (and then I read a guy who praised it by contrasting it with "The Forgotten," so I rented that one and thought it was alot better ... that guy was full of it, a real jerk, a real knee-biter, to quote the Hitchhiker's Giude to the Galaxy)

But, for the record, Domino never made it to any of those statuses
