Hogwarts, Hogwarts,
Hoggy Warty Hogwarts,
Teach us something please,
Whether we be old and bald,
Or young with scabby knees,
Our heads could do with filling,
With some interesting stuff,
For now they're bare
And full of air,
Dead flies and bits of fluff.
So teach us stuff worth knowing,
Bring back what we forgot,
Just do your best
We'll do the rest,
And learn until our brains all rot!

1: The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2: Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
3: There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
4: Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5: Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6: His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7: The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.
8: The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9: The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
10: More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11: Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
12: Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13: Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
14: Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Beyond the Veil

At 5:45 pm this evening, March 27th 2006, my father, JD Kendall, passed beyond the veil of this life.

One of JK Rowling's central themes is coping with death properly and greiving rightly, and so I will continue to write on these works and what they contain about the true beauty of our lives in memory of my father's beautiful life and the desire he instilled in me to find and follow that which makes our lives worth living.

May he rest in the Peace of our Lord.

Jo and Sarah,
thank you both.
After the past 4 months it is, indeed, I imagine, for him, to quote DD, like going to bed after an extremely long and painful day.

and yes, a new adventure

There are too many good things to say about Jack Kendall to list anywhere, let alone here, but suffice it to say this for now. Jack was a brilliant man, a college professor, computer programmer, mathematician and ordained minister and yet he chose to spend his time with the more down-to-earth folk of this world. He sang and played in nursing homes and country jamborees all over Western Pennsylvania. Like Gandalf the Wizard was beloved in the hearts of the hobbits who knew so little of his mind, so Jack was known among the simple folk more for his large heart than his great intellect. He leaves behind students enriched by his teaching and countless fans of his guitar-strumming and booming voice, all grateful to have known him and all acknowledging a life well-lived.

Dad would appreciate very much being likened to the grey pilgrim. One time over the past couple years I came into their house to find him on the couch watching the extended version of the two towers, he had been having some ringing in his ears so he was watching it with the English subtitles on and was so engrossed in it he didn't hear me come in ... he didn't get into Tolkien until late in life, but once he did he enjoyed him alot.

It's 3:00am, March 30th, and I've just discovered the news of your father. I must say I'm moved to tears as I empathize with the strong memories you must be dealing with at the moment, having lost my own father to cancer at the early age of 69. May God tend to the sharpest pain while He mends the deepest hurt - I have a sense in my spirit of my Dad going over to Jack and saying, "Hi, my name's Earl, and I play guitar, too." How we miss them - but what a Jamboree we may look forward to some sweet day. Praying for you and yours - Morganna

Thanks Jo :)

And Morganna, I'm surer my dad is taking great pleasure in meeting and getting to know your dad ... he always immensely enjoyed company with anyone who was into singing and playing, especially old gospel and blue-grass (at present, as I write this, I'm listening to a copy of Emmy Lou Harris' "Roses in the Snow" I had burnt for Dad along with a copy of her "Angel Band" album). I imagine Jack and Earl are kind of two peas in pod now enjoying the presence of God ... Dad's probably enjoying introducing him to my grand-parents with something like, "Well ... his daughter reads Brett's writing on the internet" and all smiling as my grandfather says wryly "ahhh, yes ... I've been keeping an eye on that boy of yours"
